What Does Arron Banks' referral to the NCA mean for Brexit?

BREAKING NEWS - Arron Banks, a prominent Leave.EU campaigner has been referred to the National Crime Agency for breaking electoral law.

This is not the first time that the pro-Brexit campaign has come into question over the last year and it's causing just as much outrage as the first instance but let's be clear, the Electoral Commission referring Banks to the NCA is not as significant as it may seem.

When the Electoral Commission first referred the Vote Leave campaign to police for breaking electoral spending laws back in July, there was the general expectation that Vote Leave would be criminally charged and that would be that - however, nearly four months on from that point, there has yet to be any formal charges against the group. We, as the public, cannot expect Vote Leave to be found guilty if the facts take this long to certify that Vote Leave are guilty of breaking electoral law.

Now the point of that story is so that we don't get ahead of ourselves and place the notion that Arron Banks is guilty of breaking electoral law and that Vote Leave/Leave.EU unfairly won the Brexit referendum back in 2016 - that's very dangerous.

Honestly, Arron Banks being referred to the NCA means nothing for Brexit. It will serve to antagonise those Remain Voters who feel cheated in the the Brexit referendum but unfortunately, there is nothing one can do, Article 50 has been triggered and the United Kingdom will leave the European Union, period. No second referendum or 'People's Vote' can change that and our laws must adapt and be more effective at preventing another recurrence of this blatant breach of electoral law. I have to reinforce my position that a 'People's Vote' is unconstitutional and inconceivable due to the political ramifications of that vote, not only does it set a dangerous voting precedent for this nation but also, what can anyone achieve from this supposed vote. We, as the public, cannot reject the entirety nor specifics of a deal, it's a lump package and even if we vote it down, what happens next, the UK still leaves the EU on the 29th of March 2019, the government collapses and who knows what happens next - it will lead this country into a political apocalypse.

However, I digress, Arron Banks cannot be allowed to flex his influence on political movements again, his mere name will disillusion many voters and his name has this toxic air around him, with such widespread anger towards the man - Twitter has many an example if you want to check out. Brexit will not be affected by this referral (or even conviction). The United Kingdom will still leave the EU in March 2019 despite Banks' allegedly illegal activities having a degree of impact on the Brexit Referendum, we cannot hold onto this anger regarding the circumstances of the referendum but rather promote this country in the best way possible.

And that's a wrap for this blog post, Brexit remains as controversial and divisive as ever and I'm here digesting all of it. If you do like this post, please let me know, it means a lot! Anand
